Your Heart’s Desire number is calculated by adding all of the vowels in your full birth name.

The vowels in the English language are:

A, E, I, O, and U

Many of you may have learned “and sometimes Y” as a child.

That’s accurate here too, but let’s make sure we know when and why (no pun intended) the letter ‘Y’ is a vowel.

Typically, at least for the majority of names, ‘Y’ is used as a vowel. A vowel is a letter that provides the life of a word. What does that mean? Vowels give words vibration and sound from your vocal cords. Consonants, on the other hand, articulate pronunciations and don’t have the same breath of life as vowels.

Here is an example of the letter ‘Y’ used as a vowel:

Notice that the ‘Y’ is between the L and the two Ns. Without the ‘Y’ acting as a vowel, we would have “Lnn”, which just doesn’t look right, nor is it able to be pronounced properly without the ‘Y’.

Other names that utilize ‘Y’ as a vowel would be:

Amy, Billy, Cathy, Danny, Gary, Jaclyn, Kyler, Allyson, Ryan, Sylvia, Tyler, etc.

Notice that the ‘Y’ always provides a vowel sound (usually emulating an ‘E’ or ‘I’) as opposed to a consonant sound.

With ‘Y’ as a consonant, let’s run a calculation to find the Heart’s Desire number of a full name:

G + A + Y + L + E

0 + 1 + 0 + 0 + 5 = 6

M + A + Y

0 + 1 + 0 = 1

Y + O + D + E + R

0 + 6 + 0 + 5 + 0 = 11

The letter ‘Y’ as a consonant provides a much different sound, such as in “yellow”.

Consonants have a definitive start and finish to their sound. The ‘Y’ in yellow provides the first sound not of the vocal cord. The first vowel/vocal sound is provided by the E following the ‘Y’, thus ‘Y’ would be treated as a consonant in this example.

Some names that have a ‘Y’ as a consonant would be:

Yolanda, Yon, Yeltsin, Yohan, York, Yates, Yoder, Yount, etc.

Usually ‘Y’ is found at the beginning of a word if it is used as a consonant, but just like everything else in the English language, let’s make this even more fun (difficult!).
