Your Personality Number is calculated by adding all of the consonants in your full birth name.
The consonants in the English language are:
B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, (Y), and Z
‘Y’ can act as a consonant OR a vowel. See the information below to determine how the ‘Y’ in your name is used.
'Y' ACTING AS A VOWEL
Typically, at least for the majority of names, ‘Y’ is used as a vowel. A vowel is a letter that provides the life of a word. What does that mean? Vowels give words vibration and sound from your vocal cords. Consonants, on the other hand, articulate pronunciations and don’t have the same breath of life as vowels.
Here is an example of the letter ‘Y’ used as a vowel:

Notice that the ‘Y’ is between the L and the two Ns. Without the ‘Y’ acting as a vowel, we would have “Lnn”, which just doesn’t look right, nor is it able to be pronounced properly without the ‘Y’.
Other names that utilize ‘Y’ as a vowel would be:
Amy, Billy, Cathy, Danny, Gary, Jaclyn, Kyler, Allyson, Ryan, Sylvia, Tyler, etc.
Notice that the ‘Y’ always provides a vowel sound (usually emulating an ‘E’ or ‘I’) as opposed to a consonant sound.

With ‘Y’ as a vowel, here are some calculations:
A + M + Y + L + Y + N + N + S + M + I + T + H
0 + 4 + 0 + 3 + 0 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 4 + 0 + 2 + 8 = 32
3 + 2 = 5
Amy Lynn Smith would then sum to 32, which by the Pythagorean reduction method we would then reduce 32 to 5 (3 + 2 = 5). Continue the calculations with your full birth name to find your true Personality Number.
'Y' ACTING AS A CONSONANT
With ‘Y’ as a consonant, let’s run a calculation to find the Personality Number of a full name. The example name we’ll use that has ‘Y’ as consonant in every use is Gayle May Yoder:
G + A + Y + L + E + M + A + Y + Y + O + D + E + R
7 + 0 + 7 + 3 + 0 + 4 + 0 + 7 + 7 + 0 + 4 + 0 + 9 = 48
We then would reduce 4+ 8 = 12 = 1 + 2 = 3
Gayle May Yoder sums to 48, which reduces to 12, which then reduces to 3. Gayle’s Personality number is 3.

FUTHERMORE AS A CONSONANT
The letter ‘Y’ as a consonant provides a much different sound, such as in “yellow”.
Consonants have a definitive start and finish to their sound. The ‘Y’ in yellow provides the first sound not of the vocal cord. The first vowel/vocal sound is provided by the E following the ‘Y’, thus ‘Y’ would be treated as a consonant in this example.
Some names that have a ‘Y’ as a consonant would be:
Yolanda, Yon, Yeltsin, Yohan, York, Yates, Yoder, Yount, etc.
Usually ‘Y’ is found at the beginning of a word if it is used as a consonant, but just like everything else in the English language, let’s make this even more fun (difficult!).
When ‘Y’ immediately follows a vowel sound, it is also taking the role of a consonant in those scenarios. Let’s cut to the chase and show some examples:
Arroyo, Davey, Ray, Gayle, Lindsey, May, Mickey, Murphey, Morrisey, etc.

English would not be complete without the words and names that use ‘Y’ as both a vowel and a consonant. Here we go:

In these cases, a manual calculation would be best. Example below:

0 + 7 + 0 + 0 + 5 + 0
The first ‘Y’ in “Sydney” makes the soft I sound, therefore it acts as a vowel, count it. The ‘Y’ at the end of “Sydney” follows the E sound make by the E, therefore ‘Y’ acts as a consonant, don’t count it.
If needed, run your first name, middle name, and last name separately in the Personality Number Calculator and add the totals for a grand sum. If the sum is not 11, 22, or 33, reduce the number to a single digit and you’ll have your Personality Number.
If you end up with 11, 22, 33 after adding your full name, do not reduce! You have a master number for your Personality, which would remain as a double digit number.
